Happy Scrappy Barrette Tutorial

Welcome to Day 2 (a day late) of...

Why is this post coming a day late?  Well, there are a couple of reasons.  This past week at work was the most stressful of my entire professional career.  I came home exhausted, stressed, and crying each night only to fall asleep as soon as my kiddos were in bed.  I'll spare you the details as to why it was such a bad week.

The other reason this post is a day late is because I made a last minute creative decision that held the countdown up a bit...

As cute as these bows were...

 And these...

It just didn't quite feel like the crafty Christmas countdown that I did last year.  Something was missing...
After thinking about it, I realized what the missing piece was...
The red felt and red fabric with white polka dots that I used for all 12 crafts during last year's series.

Realizing this...
I whipped up yet another Happy Scrappy Barrette!

There!  That's better!  What was I thinking trying to do year 2 of this series without it's main component--the stuff that started it all.  It's like American Idol trying to have another season without Simon.  Well, with all of that being said, let's get to the good stuff.

Here it is!  The...

It's time to turn your scraps into something happy!

Directions:
*Gather together all of your supplies--buttons,

scraps (ribbon, felt, and fabric pieces),

hot glue gun, thread end glue, barrettes, fabric scissors, and pinking shears.

*Cut scrap pieces 2 inches longer than the length of your barrettes.  If there are any scraps that you worry will unravel just dab a little thread end glue on the ends and let it dry.

*Gather a few of the scraps together and tie a ribbon tightly around them.

*Glue the barrette to the back of the tied-up scraps.

*Add a button to the front for a little extra pizzazz.

*For the fabric/felt Happy Scrappy Barrette, I cut out strips of the material, tied the pieces together with a ribbon, cut the ends with pinking shears, and glued the whole scrap pile onto a barrette.

There you have it!  These Happy Scrappy Barrettes are quick, easy, and simply cute.  They would make a great gift for a special little girl!

Happy Christmas Crafting!
