Eli's Birth Story

Timothy Elijah Shelton
We just call him Eli though.
I think your heart must grow bigger with each child.  It is amazing that as much as you love your first child you can instantly love another with that same intensity.  Those first few cries brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart.  My first thought was, "FINALLY!"  The sound of Eli's cries had finally filled a hole in my heart that had existed since the first miscarriage.  Prior to the miscarriages, our family had felt so complete, but afterwards I felt like there was an empty space.  Lydia Grace has brought so much joy to our hearts, and it is that joy that made us long for another child.  What wonderful blessings from God both Lydia Grace and Eli are!  I truly believe that the trials in our lives that bring us to our knees make us appreciate the miracles and blessings so much more.
Sorry to get so sappy...
But I can't even begin to tell you how overjoyed and thankful I was to be holding a healthy baby boy in my arms.  I just wanted to soak up and completely savor every second.
Our doctor was wonderful!  She is the one who diagnosed the coagulation disorders that had caused the miscarriages, and took such great care of us through this pregnancy.  Finding her was an answered prayer.
Eli actually ended up being even bigger than they thought he was going to be.  All 8 pounds 1 ounce of him entered the world at 2:23 p.m. on Thursday, September 29 and stole my heart in an instant.
His daddy became pretty emotional too as Eli reached out and grasped his finger during those beautiful, blurred moments following his birth.
Yeah, I did this too.  You just want to stare at them and memorize every inch of their sweet little faces.
Aren't baby feet and fingers the best?!
You know what is even better though...
Getting to introduce one sibling to another for the very first time.
Sweet moments like these are are the magical parts of life that just take your breath away!
 Here we were...
ready to leave the hospital, pick up Lydia Grace, and begin our lives as a family of four.
