Ten Photography Tips for Photographing Kids

"Look this way, Miss Priss." I can still hear daddy calling those words out to me as he'd click his camera. My dad was always taking photos of us when I was growing up.
Birthdays...
ripping into presents at Christmas...
my sister and I playing in a summer rain with our pink and blue umbrellas...
sitting in our mother's lap on the blue floral couch they used to own...
riding a bike for the first time...
hunting eggs at Easter...
running beneath the Georgia pines...
visiting grandparents...
giggles between sisters...
smiles and joy!
He captured it all!

Mama would take some pictures too. Although she left most of the family picture-taking to my dad, she had once been a writer and photographer for a newspaper.

I guess it was inevitable that I'd grow to love taking photos too. I'm the historian in our family, and I relish opportunities to take and share photos that tell the story of our lives.

Do you also enjoy capturing those precious memories on camera? I've shared a few tips I've picked up along the way on the Knoxville Moms Blog...

Toss pillows are one of the easiest and most affordable ways to add interest and color to an area and to freshen up a room's decor. Sewing your own toss pillows is even better because you can choose the style, fabric, and size that you want. It's also less expensive than buying pillows from the store especially when you get creative with the materials like I did for this first pair of pillows...

Fourth of July Tablescape

I love setting the table for festive occasions. When I was a child, setting the table on a daily basis was one of my designated chores. I'm sure there were some days I complained about having to prepare the table for dinner, but usually I didn't mind it--especially for holidays. It ended up being good practice for the countless tables I would set and the rolls of silverware and napkins I would put together for the jobs I held during the high school/college years. Today my challenge isn't setting an entire dining room in under 30 minutes though. Now the goal is laying out a tablescape that is both festive and kid-friendly. Here are some fun ideas for your Fourth of July celebration that I'm sure the kids will love...
