The Life of Jennifer Dawn: Read!

Read!

I don't usually talk about my job here on the blog, but today I am going to take a brief moment to visit that area of my life.

As an educator, the number one question I am asked by the parents of my students is, "What can I do to help my child in school?"

The simple answer is to make reading a priority.  A child's ability to read affects them throughout all academic areas!  Studies have shown that children who have had books readily available and accessible to them at an early age become better students.  Studies have also shown that children who have been read to during the early years of their lives perform better in school.  It is such a simple answer to such a valid question, but reading truly is a vital component to a child's academic success.

As a mother, stories have brought so many smiles and giggles to my home.  The times that I curl up with my children to enjoy a good book are such precious times.  Why would you not want to delve into an activity that not only promotes your child's development, but also promotes a time of closeness?

Take time to read today!  No child is too young or too old to be read to!

Happy Reading!

  2. I've said the same thing to parents hundreds of times. It makes all the difference in the world. Not only with reading, but with writing as well.

I also recommend reading "The Read Aloud Handbook" by Jim Trelease as a parent. It can convince anyone (even my husband who cannot stand to read out loud) that they MUST read to their child and has a great list of good books for different age ranges.

  3. AMEN!
I am loving that Bitsy is to a stage where she will sit on my lap and let me read to her.
I look forward to this nightly routine and can't wait until I am reading chapter books to her a chapter at a time before bed!
    Hope you are doing well!
